Steve’s Retreat Fraser 2021 Caravan had mostly good gear in it.  760W total solar panels, 450Ah lithium batteries and a 3000W Redarc Inverter. 

In theory there is sufficient roof top caravan solar to rapidly charge the caravan lithium battery bank, but this wasn’t the case.    

Due to poor electrical design, poor termination of connections, and undersized cables the caravan power system was underperforming.  The solar panels were not charging the batteries as expect which make the entire power setup unreliable!

Steve and Jenni were sick of being restricted by their failing caravan power setup and felt frustrated they couldn’t stay off-grid for very long before running out of power.

After diagnosing the issues, we reengineered the electrical system, re-used existing components, relocated the inverter, and added necessary electrical components to make Steve & Jenni’s system work amazingly. 

The addition of the Enerdrive DCDC Battery Chargers and Enerdrive MPPT Solar Charge Controllers and rewiring existing components with the correct cable sizes was crucial to improving the performance of the off-grid power setup in this caravan.

Since we are qualified electricians with an electrical contractor’s licence, we also modified the 240V switchboard to power the air-conditioner via the inverter while off-grid with the ease of flicking the power switch, no extension leads needed!

We tweaked a few settings, added USB ports, and added the Simarine Pico system to enable easy battery management and load monitoring of the overall caravan power system.

Now Steve and Jenni have a complete off-grid power setup giving them seriously rapid recharge rates with a user friendly battery management system giving them the power to stay off grid hassle free for longer!!!
